Characteristics of a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu GI

The big difference of a BJJ GI cheap is in its resistance. It is made of 100% cotton with reinforced seams. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or BJJ is a martial art from traditional Jujitsu and is practiced with a keikogi, the famous BJJ GI. The goal is to be able to grab his opponent by his GI and pull him in all directions. So, you will have to choose a special Brazilian BJJ GI so that it cannot tear or distort.

A BJJ GI is also equipped with a thick collar to help you better protect yourself from strangulation. In addition, the BJJ GI is distinguished by its tight sleeves and reinforced pants with multiple rows of seams. You can even choose a GI Ju Jitsu brand that offers a lining for the jacket and reinforcement bands for the hems. In all cases, BJJ's GIs are well reinforced in the slits, crotch, armpits and knees. These are the most targeted parts of the body during ground combat.

Finally, a BJJ GI is also available in several colors. Admittedly, there are only 3 colors which are authorized in competition: white, blue and black. But you can choose unofficial colors such as pink or red. Some manufacturers even offer camouflage-style BJJ GIs. Please note: this is not allowed in competition, but only for training!

How much does a BJJ GI cost?

The price of a BJJ GI varies from 59 € to 250 €. It is defined according to several factors: the quality of the cotton, the manufacture and the brand of the BJJ GI. The brands of GIs made in Brazil are the best known by the general public: Atama, Koral, Vulkan, Venum ... Indeed, Brazilian cotton is well known for its good quality and robustness. The majority of Ju Jitsu GIs from these brands cost around € 130 to € 150 in France.

However, it is possible to choose a cheap BJJ GI made from cotton from Pakistan. Many English and European manufacturers choose cotton produced in Pakistan because it is much cheaper. However, this does not affect the quality of the BJJ GI. For example, the price of BJJ GIs of the Tatami Fightwear brand starts from € 50, but they are well known for their resistance and durability despite regular use.

Light or light BJJ GIs are available at a low price for the practice of competitions or training with high temperatures, which will allow this feeling to be more relaxed during training.

BJJ GI Kids starts from € 44.90 ranging from size M0 to M5, made from the same material as adult BJJ's GI.

As you can see, choosing a BJJ GI is above all a matter of taste. Made in Brazil or Pakistan, the GI Jiu Jitsu will always be suitable for this martial art. Obviously, the price of your BJJ GI depends on your brand preference. If you are a beginner, it is just advisable to orient your choice towards a cheap BJJ GI (less than 100 €) and buy a high-end GI from reputable brands later.
